The "language of letting go" by Melody Beattie, is a book of daily meditations designed to help you spend a few moments each day in self care. Two important lessons I learned from this book is gratitude and letting go of the past.
There is magic in practicing gratitude. Whenever I start thinking "poor me" or "why me" and feeling myself sinking into a negative head space, I know it's time for some gratitude. When I turn my focus to gratitude, it allows me to have peaceful perspective about my current circumstances, who I am and what I have.
I remember that I'm fortunate in many ways.
Ever since I became a small business owner and launched my website, I have struggled with doubt, fear and stress. I began questioning my ability to have a successful art business. However, practicing gratitude helped me to realize that being a business owner does not mean success will happen immediately. I came to the understanding that I am right where I'm supposed to be, in the midst of putting in the effort and work to market and grow my business. I have received alot of "No's" but I'm grateful for the perseverance and wisdom I'm developing.
No matter how long I tried to avoid it, I had to come to terms with my past. The only way to healing is facing your past, and moving through it to the other side. Understanding my past, helped me to have compassion for myself the sensitive fearful little girl who became a depressed adult. Through compassion came the desire to heal. The information in this book had a lot to do with moving me forward to a place where I can alway find peace.
There is so much helpful information in this book, and I am so grateful that a stranger in a group therapy session shared it with me. I hope you find it as helpful as I did, and still do.
