Creativity

I believe we all have the gift of creativity. Most people believe creativity is limited to the arts and entertainment. I believe there are many ways of being creative such as creating a family, furnishing a home, preparing a meal or creating a wardrobe. Creativity is anything you cause to come into being. It all stems from thought, imagination, desire, inspiration and execution.

For me, being creative comes from my vivid imagination, emotions and a God given talent. When creating a painting sometimes I have a clear direction, other times it turns into something completely different. During the painting process I frequently stop painting and step back to examine the painting which allows me to possibly see an entirely new direction.

I am currently working on a painting that came about because I decided to scrape another painting after I barely got started. I filled my brush with white paint and began to make brush strokes to cover the undesirable painting. When I took my usual step back to examine it, I discovered I had painted a white swan. Immediately I felt I was being Divinely guided. Of course this painting is very special to me, and is currently still being developed. I'm excited to show the finished product.

As I mentioned my paintings are generally an expression of an emotional experience. Which is why I identify with the style of art called Expressionism. This style of art is subjective and symbolic rather than objective reality. Its forms are exaggerated and colors are intensified. The style is about evoking moods or ideas from the viewer.

When I began writing poetry, it was again a way to express my emotions like journaling. Now I find inspiration from anyone or any experience. When I write poetry, first I determine exactly what I want to express. Then I allow my imagination to create a scene in my mind and the words follow.

Whether painting or writing poetry, I simply go where the creative process takes me. There's no right, no wrong only CREATIVITY.
